Phone Scam – Important alert from the Office of the Attorney General

The Office of the Attorney General wishes to alert members of the public to scam phone calls they may receive claiming to be from an official of the Office and possibly displaying the Office’s phone number (631 4000). The caller can make a range of claims, for example that the person has been a victim of fraud or identity theft where their identity has been used for drug trafficking or money laundering. They may also claim that there is a case against the person and a warrant out for their arrest. Personal details, which can include PPS numbers and/or bank details may also be asked for by the caller.

Members of the public should not engage with these callers, return calls to these numbers or share any personal information with the callers, but report the matter to the Gardaí immediately. The Office of the Attorney General does not request PPS numbers or bank account details from members of the public.

COVID-19

In keeping with the Government's public health advice, the CSSO is facilitating remote working where possible. Please note the following changes in relation to service of proceedings and correspondence.

Service of Proceedings

The CSSO has temporarily ceased its practice of confirming service of legal proceedings at time of service.

Legal proceedings served in person at the CSSO offices may be left in the designated area in Reception at Osmond House or the Chancery Building. They will be forwarded to the appropriate Section and will be acknowledged as soon as possible. Proceedings may also be served by post, in accordance with Order 121 of the Rules of the Superior Courts.

Correspondence

When corresponding with the CSSO at this time we encourage you to do so by email unless it is strictly necessary to do so by post, in which case you should notify the relevant person or Section by email that you have forwarded documents by post.

CSSO email addresses are in the format firstname_surname@csso.gov.ie – if you do not have a contact name, please email contact@csso.gov.ie and your email will be directed to the relevant person or Section.
