- 1976 - Barrister at Law Degree, King's Inns, Dublin.
- 1978 - Bachelor of Arts (History and Economics) Degree, National University of Ireland (University College Dublin).
- 1979 - LLM Degree from the University of Cambridge (Trinity Hall).
2. Practice as Barrister: Professional Career
- 1979 - Admitted to practice at the Bar of Ireland (Junior Counsel).
- 1991 - Admitted to practice at the Inner Bar of Ireland (Senior Counsel).
